Plant and Animal Metabolism
Subhead Needed
ABC Laboratories provides a broad array of GLP-compliant plant and animal metabolism services required to demonstrate safety, distribution and metabolism of chemical substances. Our scientists apply decades of experience and state-of-the-art instrumentation to deliver sensitive, robust methods, reliable data and repeatable results. This includes radio-chromatographic profiling, isolation and identification of metabolites. If radiolabeled test substances are required, our team of organic synthesis chemists is ready to produce the materials for the studies.
Plant Metabolism
Our field specialists are an integral part of all plant metabolism projects growing and caring for the test plants throughout each study, in addition to performing the appropriate type of application of the radiolabeled test substance. Our field specialists collect tissue samples at intervals from application through harvest. Depending on the requirements of the study, testing can be conducted in any one of eight greenhouses or in a confined outdoor area situated on our campus to fit the requirements of the study. A wide variety of plant species can be tested. After processing, tissue samples are turned over to our chemists for analysis.
Animal Metabolism
ABC conducts large animal (i.e., livestock) feeding studies with cattle, goats and poultry. ABC's Study Directors oversee in-life stages at partner sites with AAALAC-accredited facilities. Following chemical methods development/validation work at ABC, dose preparations and homogeneity samples, along with residue samples (milk, eggs, meat, etc.) are collected and shipped to ABC for analysis. Rapid sample turn around ensures that a plateau has been reached prior to termination of dose administration.
In addition to large animal studies, ABC conducts bioaccumulation/metabolism studies with fish and a variety of other aquatic and terrestrial organisms including crayfish and earthworms. All in-life exposures are conducted in our laboratories located in Columbia, Missouri, under the supervision of our highly experienced aquatic biologists and toxicologists.
